The Busy Life

Since I have been married and left the college life, I find it very funny when college students complain about how busy they are. I often tell them, “Wait until you have a family – THEN you will know what busy is!” Don’t get me wrong, college is a busy time, but you learn time management skills that are crucial to the real world. (At least I hope college students learn that… we can only hope.)

Just when I thought life couldn’t get busier, I found out that my third child is on the way. I am glad, of course, but my first instinct was to say, “Lord, are you sure that this is what you want for me?” I don’t know what the future holds in store, but I am so glad that God promises to only give us what we can handle. Sometimes I still don’t think I can handle things, but I cling to that promise in those times. Balance that, though, with the Northland Motto from my college days: “God never promised an easy path.” Just because God says I can handle situations He gives me doesn’t mean that they will be easy to deal with.

“But He giveth more grace.” In those times where I say, “Are you sure, Lord?” the only thing I can do is rest in God’s power and wisdom, because without Him I can do nothing. In the busy times, only God’s grace can sustain us and help us accomplish what HE wants us to accomplish. What a relief it is to be able to lean on the Everlasting Arms!
