I am unashamedly pro-life. I will not chain myself to an abortion clinic door, but I will do what I can to get the word out that life is life at conception. Having had 3 children, I see how quickly they develop in the womb. I have seen ultrasounds as soon as 8 weeks after conception, and watched that little heart beating. It is precious, a gift from the Almighty Creator, and I have no idea why someone would want to destroy that life.
The University of Wisconsin Health System in conjunction with Meriter Hospital are proposing to begin doing second trimester abortions at their surgery center. On Saturday, there is a rally at 12:15 on the UW Library Mall. They plan to march to the surgery center in protest of this proposal. When Stephen and I heard about it, we didn’t even have to consult about being there.
My Grandfather has worked for many, many years for a pro-life organization in this state. I have watched his burden, and am so proud of what he and his comrades have accomplished through God’s Power. Yet, I know that he is extremely burdened about when he and his friends have passed on. What the pro-life movement NEEDS is young people. It is what is lacking at this time. I believe that there are millions of young adults who feel about abortion they way that I do. We don’t see them, because they are too busy with careers, life in general, and in my case family. Yet a rally, such as the one on Saturday, takes 1 HOUR. That’s it. One hour on a weekend. The crisis pregnancy centers in our state will take, and train, people who can only contribute a few hours a month. Not much is required to let your voice be heard and make a difference in lives (the baby’s and the mommy’s).
Edmund Burke’s words are haunting me at this time. “All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing.” When we are silent; when we think we cannot make a difference; When we do not stand up for righteousness – that is when evil prospers. Proverbs 31:8-9 says, “Open thy mouth for the dumb in the cause of all such as are appointed to destruction. Open thy mouth, judge righteously, and plead the cause of the poor and needy.” Babies in the womb cannot speak for themselves. It is our duty to speak on their behalf.
If you live in the Madison Area, are a pro-lifer, and have an hour to spare on Saturday, please make every effort to be at the rally. It will be a legal, peaceable rally. All you have to do is walk. If you can’t walk, roll. Just be there.
